That dream life I’m living in my head? Well, I sometimes struggle to embody the woman who lives it. With regards to my sleepwear capsule, I really thought I’d turned the corner for good.
I truly believed that I’d 'grown up' to the point where my sleepwear would always be lovely. I fooled myself into thinking that I was finished with cast-off tanks and ratty tees. Not so. Seems it’s a slippery slope. I’ve sunken back into the black hole of cruddy pajamas!
I just took a hard look at my pj drawer. Ugh! It's embarrassing.
While there is some good news, the overall picture is not one of me living my best pajama life!
One the plus side...
It’s organized. Everything is folded just the way I like, lawfully abiding by the KonMari Method. And the components all share a basic color palette. Woohoo!
My entire 'pajama collection' looks like junk!
Freshly showered, I pull on my chosen combo of hang out/sleep pieces… and then I catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror.
What the heck? Saggy, baggy, faded... definitely not sexy or luxurious!
My sleepwear capsule has grown old and tired… again! How is a girl ever going to feel sensual and fabulous wearing this stuff?! Simply stated... She's not!
Realistically, I should have known this day was coming. I mean, I haven’t paid much attention to this ‘capsule’ in my wardrobe in over two years. What did I think would happen if I didn’t give my sleepwear some love?
I’ve always had a bit of a 'fix it and forget about it' mentality. Total honesty? There are very few (if any) tasks or projects that I really want to revisit, ever.
I’d be good if I could…
Water my plants, once.
Clean out my garage, once.
Put away the clean laundry, once.
Go to the grocery store, once.
Shave my legs, once.
However, I’m keenly aware that most things in life need my recurring attention. So… moving forward, I'll be adding a new task to my calendar. At least twice a year, I'll find time to examine and refresh my sleepwear.
The Spring and Fall Pajama Project is born:-)
This 'project' will remind me to take a look at my sleep/hang out clothes and make sure they reflect the life I want to be living. And the girl I want to be!
With plenty of things on my plate that are actually important, I haven't fully developed the vision for my ideal sleepwear capsule... yet:-) But in researching my options, I realize that sleep clothes and street clothes share a similar dilemma.
There are pieces of 'real' clothing that I love on other women, but don't love on me. For instance; trench coats, grey jeans, white button-down blouses, denim jackets... all incredible pieces, but not authentic for me.
In sleepwear, I struggle to feel like myself in the following... long white cotton nighties, stuffy menswear-style pajamas, and fabrics that are super whimsical or critter covered. And, I tend to stay away from tops offering words of wisdom about brunch, coffee, naps and weekends:-)
I want sophisticated luxury that's comfortable, beautiful and still appropriate for a mom of three teenagers.
I should clarify that by sleepwear, I mean the clothing that I wear for hanging out in the evening, in my home with my family. For actual sleeping, I'm usually in a tank top and panties.
I'm creating my current sleepwear wish list with pieces from the following companies...
Pour Les Femmes (I love all things Robin Wright;)
Please share your sleepwear secrets...
What's on your wish list? Where do you find your favorite pieces?
I'll be sure to keep you posted as I begin securing some replacements for the sad, old faithfuls I've been lounging in...
Have an amazing week! Thanks for reading.
